Grandmaster Wing Chun Gary Lam has announced a four-day seminar in Pforzheim, Germany, in June 2026, which is already being called one of the central events of his European tour. The announcements emphasize that the format of the meeting at the Wing Jun Center is open to all styles and schools, and the program itself is focused on the practical aspects of self-defense, making this event a notable milestone for Wing Chun practitioners throughout Europe.
Seminar dates and format
The main training block will take place on June 6-7, 2026, and is billed as an “Open Seminar – all people welcome,” thereby emphasizing the inter-style nature of the event and its focus on the exchange of experience between representatives of different branches of Chinese martial arts. June 8-9 are set aside for small group classes, where participants will have the opportunity to delve deeper into tactical decisions, work on individual mistakes, and ask the grandmaster questions in a live dialogue format, drawing on their competitive or coaching experience.
Venue and role of the Wing Jun Center
The host is the Wing Jun Center in Pforzheim, led by Sifu Victor Scheifele, an official fourth-level Gary Lam Wing Chun practitioner, who received his certification directly from the grandmaster after many years of training and internships.
The center actively develops its own Wing Jun style, combining classic Wing Chun principles with modern training methods. Gary Lam’s visit is seen as a logical continuation of the collaboration that began with his seminars in Germany in the mid-2010s.
The figure of Grandmaster Gary Lam Sifu
Gary Lam is known as one of Wong Shun Leung’s leading students and was his senior trainer in Hong Kong for six years, which sets him apart among representatives of the direct line from Yip Man and makes the master’s seminars an important source of authentic interpretation of the style. Lam’s biography notes his rich competitive experience: in the late 1970s, he became the Hong Kong champion in full-contact fighting, and later headed the Hong Kong Ving Tsun Association and was awarded the title of “Sifu of the Year” by the World Ving Tsun Association, cementing his status as one of the key figures in modern Wing Chun.
Expected training content
Lem’s official school resources emphasize that international seminars place a special emphasis on structure, working with balance and center of mass, as well as developing tactical thinking through the practice of Chi Sao and applied sparring scenarios, which allows participants to test the principles of the style in dynamics. In announcements for the upcoming 2026 tour, including seminars in Australia and Germany, Lam describes his goal as conveying the concept of “natural fighting” and explaining how the principles of Wing Chun adapt to the realities of modern combat, which, according to the organizers’ expectations, will make the Pforzheim seminar a kind of laboratory for coaches and fighters seeking practical confirmation of the style’s effectiveness.
