Lisbon, Portugal. One of the world’s largest Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments, the European IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2026, will officially open on January 15 and run until January 24. The venue is once again the Pavilhão Multiusos de Odivelas, an arena that has hosted the IBJJF European Championship for many years. The organizers warn that due to the large number of applications, the schedule may be extended, and the first fights will begin on January 15-16. Thousands of athletes from dozens of countries are expected to participate.
The venue and atmosphere — ready for maximum excitement The multifunctional arena in Odivelas is fully prepared: dozens of tatami mats, spacious stands, and areas for teams. As in previous years, admission for spectators is free, which traditionally creates a noisy, intense atmosphere — a true European capital of BJJ for the duration of the tournament.
Categories and requirements In 2026, all divisions are included in the program: Juvenile Adult Master 1–7 Belts from white to black. Men’s and women’s categories Absolute divisions Open Class For adult black belts, there is a mandatory requirement of at least 40 IBJJF ranking points.
Expectations for the tournament The European IBJJF is traditionally considered one of the most significant tournaments of the season: high ranking points, the strongest lineups, a benchmark for the start of the year, and an opportunity for athletes to make a name for themselves on the international stage. According to IBJJF expectations, the number of participants this year may exceed last season’s figures.
