One such event is the 2026 World Ryukyu Kobudo Championship – the most important international forum for traditional weaponry arts, combining the heritage of the Ryukyu Archipelago with the modern global scene.

The tournament program includes disciplines that are rarely seen live outside Japan.
Participants compete on the tatami with the following weapons:
Bo (staff) – the foundation of the Ryukyu school;
Sai – weapon of rhythm, control, and instant pressure;
Tonfa – symbol of the peasant heritage transformed into art;
Kama – blade that requires surgical precision;
Nuntaku – a discipline in which mistakes are not forgiven;
Eku – an oar that became a weapon when there were no others.
In each category, not only technique is evaluated, but also what is referred to in Kobudo as 精神 – “Seishin,” the spirit of execution. This is something that cannot be imitated through speed training. It is something that is only passed on in the dojo, from master to student, over many years.
The program includes: International judging panels They are composed of masters from several generations representing different lines of the Ryukyu school.
