Sifu Francis Fong is one of the most respected Wing Chun instructors outside of Hong Kong, with over 50 years of experience. A native of Hong Kong, he began training under Sifu Jiu Wang in 1965. Jiu Wang studied alongside Yip Man, Bruce Lee’s teacher, at the legendary Jing Mo Guen Institute in Foshan, one of the elite martial arts centers in southern China.
In 1973, Fong moved to the United States, and in 1976, he founded the Francis Fong Martial Arts Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. He met Dan Inosanto in 1981 on the set of the movie Sharky’s Machine. Fong is a senior instructor under Inosanto in Filipino martial arts and Jun Fan Gung Fu, as well as director of the Southeast Region Thai Boxing Association USA under Ajarn Chai Sirisute.

Guro Dan Inosanto, born on July 24, 1936, is a key figure in the history of martial arts, a direct student and successor of Bruce Lee. Inosanto was one of three people personally appointed by Lee to teach Jun Fan Gung Fu. After Bruce Lee’s death in 1973, Inosanto became the chief guardian and promoter of the Jeet Kune Do philosophy.
Starting his practice at the age of 11 with Okinawan karate, judo, and jujitsu under the guidance of his uncle, Inosanto earned a black belt in American kenpo from Ed Parker in the early 1960s. He served as a paratrooper in the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division from 1959 to 1961. His meeting with Bruce Lee in 1964 determined the entire trajectory of his career.
Inosanto founded the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts in Marina del Rey, where he teaches Jeet Kune Do, Filipino martial arts, silat, Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and other disciplines. He has been inducted into the Black Belt Magazine Hall of Fame four times, an achievement he shares only with Chuck Norris. At the age of about 80, he received a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu from the Machado brothers, demonstrating his continuous pursuit of improvement.

Seminar Program
Sifu Francis Fong’s Wing Chun training sessions focus on close-range work, developing sensitivity (chi sao), timing, and adapting classical principles to the realities of modern sparring and MMA. Fong is known for integrating Wing Chun with other martial arts systems, making his methodology relevant to a wide range of practitioners, from representatives of traditional schools to mixed martial arts fighters.
Guro Dan Inosanto’s blocks cover Filipino systems for working with single and double sticks, stick-knife combinations, double knives, panantukan (Filipino boxing), sikaran (Filipino kicking techniques), elements of silat, and applied patterns for various fighting distances. Inosanto’s program is based on the legacy of 26 Filipino martial arts masters whom he studied under throughout his life, including the late Grandmaster John La Costa.
The seminar is geared toward instructors and advanced practitioners, but remains accessible to motivated students of all levels who are seeking to deepen their understanding of close-quarters combat and weaponry.

International Context
Seminars at the Inosanto Academy traditionally attract participants from the US, Europe, Asia, and other regions, forming a platform for professional exchange between instructors from different schools and disciplines. The Train with the Legends series, held twice a year, is one of the most prestigious events on the global martial arts community calendar.
Historically, the Train with the Legends seminar has featured masters such as Jean-Jacques Machado (Brazilian jiu-jitsu), Ajarn Chai Sirisute (Muay Thai), and Francis Fong (Wing Chun), creating a unique multidisciplinary educational environment. The January 2026 seminar featuring Fong and Inosanto kicks off the season of major international events and sets the tone for the rest of the year’s training camps.
For martial arts professionals, participation provides an opportunity to work directly with bearers of authentic traditions and to establish contacts with colleagues who are developing Wing Chun, Jit Kune Do, Filipino systems, and integrated concepts in their countries and regions.
